Travelling with small children...help!

We'll take a trip to Germany (from New Zealand) some time in the next year or so. Our children will be around 2 and 3. How do you keep two small ones occupied during such a long flight? Any suggestions would be helpful!

For kids long flights are usually pretty boring. What can we do against this boredom?
How about books to look at and to read to them, crayons for drawing, audio books and brainteaser books (for the older kids).
This is a very lightweight suggestion of a grandma who lives 25 flight hours away from her grandchildren.

A stopover is a must on long flights with kids! A very child-friendly city, especially for small kids, is Singapore. Even the snack bars on the streets are so clean the every German chip shop can pack up and go home. Medically the city is perfectly equipped, and is furthermore blessed with a very small traffic volume. Education is taken very seriously in Singapore. Moreover the city offers many short activity programs for kids, e.g. boat trips, the night zoo or jungle trekking on the Bukit Timah in the middle of the city. For the mums Singapore offers exclusive shopping experiences and for the dads a gourmet kitchen at its finest.

RE: Travelling with small children...help!

Hi all,
Here's an update on our big trip!
We flew via San Francisco, from Auckland and then on to Berlin via Munich. Both long flights were night flights, which I think is the only way to do it. We had a couple of hours of madness and then they both slept, thankfully. They could stretch out across our seats and even if we ended up standing in the aisle, it was worth it for the bit of peace.
While they were awake I found lots of little cars, books, and packets of raisins kept them quite occupied. The meals are great as they can spend a long time with the little packets of crackers, nuts etc. Even if your kids are officially toilet-trained this is one time to make an exception as airplane toilets are no-one's idea of fun. If you use dummies (schnullers/pacifiers) take heaps (in all your different bags) as you will be bound to lose them down the seat and have a screaming infant as your reward!
Viel spass!!
